Laguna Colorada - Bolivia

The Laguna Colorada is located in the department of Potosì, in Bolivia, within the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean fauna. The whole area is magnificent and alternates plateaus and plains between 4200 meters and almost 6000 meters of the majestic Licancabur volcano. The Laguna Colorada is a large salt lake at high altitude, and its peculiarity is that, thanks to some algae that grow in its waters, it has a particular red color and is a place of coupling and reproduction of various species of pink flamingos. Our night-time stop at the Laguna Colorada gave us one of the most beautiful emotions of the trip to Bolivia and Peru as far back as 2002.
