The perfect backpack

backpackThe truth is: there is no such a thing as a Perfect Backpack. You make it better trip after trip. As a guideline it should have a capacity of 4000 t0 5000 cu.in. (70 to 80 L), be impermeable and have lateral side pockets for quick-grab items, and it should contain:

- another small backpack for short excursions

- pocnho raincoat covering the backpack itself also

- a forehead torch

- universal power adaptor

- swiss army knife

- light rope

- some bag to isolate dirty clothes (important!)

- two pair of pants (the ones who trasform itself in shorts)

- two t-shirts

- a sweater (pile)

- light waterproof jacket

- underwear (not too much, it’s the easiest to wash and dry while travelling)

- a pareo (for women)

- hiking boots and sandals (no more than that)

- a small towel

- one pillowcase (you can use it also as a bag if needed)

- pharmacy and personal hygiene : keep this at minimum (if you don’t plan to stay a month in the amazon alone). You can buy any missing item everywhere, rather than bring 2 kg of items you will likely never use during your trip. That’s a list for the organized ones:

Pharmacy

- anti-biotic

- analgesic

- antidiarroheal

- disinfectant

- bandage and plasters

- iodine tablets (to disinfect water, but it’s better to boil it)

- mineral integrators and the like (it depends on the climate you will encounter)

Personal Hygiene:

- toothbrush and toothpaste

- one single product to wash body and hair
