Israel Ka\u02bbano\u02bbi Kamakawiwo\u02bbole\u00a0(Hawaiian pronunciation:\u00a0[k\u0259\u02ccm\u0250k\u0259\u02ccvivo\u02c8\u0294ole]<\/a>, translation: \u201cThe Fearless Eyed\u201d; May 20, 1959\u00a0\u2013 June 26, 1997), also called\u00a0Braddah Iz\u00a0(Brother Iz), was a\u00a0Native Hawaiian<\/a>\u00a0musician, entertainer and\u00a0Hawaiian sovereignty<\/a>\u00a0activist.<\/span><\/p>\n

His voice became famous outside Hawaii when his album\u00a0Facing Future<\/a>\u00a0was released in 1993. His\u00a0medley<\/a>\u00a0of \u201cSomewhere Over the Rainbow\/What a Wonderful World<\/a>\u201d was subsequently featured in several films, television programs, and television commercials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with his\u00a0ukulele<\/a>\u00a0playing and incorporation of other genres, such as\u00a0jazz<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0reggae<\/a>, Kamakawiwo\u02bbole remains influential on\u00a0Hawaiian music<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
