Let\u2019s start researching local institutional sites, wikis etc to collect information about climate, costs, visas and so on. Then a good deal of reading other traveller\u2019s blogs to get an idea of what to do and where to go.<\/p>\n

Documents:<\/h3>\n

Most of the country allows you in without a visa, others require a visa but you can do it directly when you pass the immigration at the airport. A small list of countries require a visa issued before leaving. Also, some countries have different policies regarding visas, depending on the nationality of the visitor. Check out Project Visa<\/a> to see what\u2019s required in a particular country. Check your passport expiration, do copies of it, make a travel insurance!<\/p>\n

Salute:<\/h3>\n

Verificare l\u2019obbligo o meno di eventuali vaccinazioni. In molti paesi ad esempio la malaria non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 endemica e il rischio dipende molto dalla zona che si visiter\u00e0 e dalla stagione. In molti casi basta un buon repellente, una zanzariera da viaggio, un trattamento agli abiti prima di partire, maniche lunghe e buon senso. Organizzarsi una farmacia di base.<\/p>\n

Soldi:<\/h3>\n

Procurarsi copia dei numeri di blocco delle carte di credito. Verificare la diffusione degli sportelli automatici per poter ritirare direttamente in loco il denaro in moneta locale. Sono oramai diffusissimi ovunque e le commissioni non sono elevate. Si ritira cos\u00ec solo quello che serve per alcuni giorni e si evita di portarsi dietro troppo contante. Per le piccole spese \u00e8 sempre meglio utilizzare moneta locale (taxi, piccoli acquisti) per evitare fregature.<\/p>\n

Un suggerimento utile \u00e8 quello di prenotare da casa tramite internet il posto dove dormire solo per la prima notte di arrivo, soprattutto se il volo sar\u00e0 lungo e l\u2019orario di arrivo tardo. Se non si possiede un adattatore universale informarsi sul tipo di presa di corrente in uso nel paese. Se ci si porta il cellulare, e si intende usarlo, pu\u00f2 essere utile salvare i numeri in rubrica con il prefisso del nostro paese (es per chiamare l\u2019Italia 0039).<\/p>\n

Culture, customs and common sense:<\/h3>\n

Be informed about customs and traditions of the country\/countries you are visiting. Respecting local ways helps you connect with people. When buying stuff, be aware that in certain countries (Asia and North Africa among others) you HAVE to bargain hard to get a fair price. It is customary for them it is not unpolite to do so. However in other countries it is not so common, so get informed about it by reading other people\u2019s experiences. As a rule of thumb, trust your instinct, ask always local people, don\u2019t be cocky or arrogant, improvise, be curious. These attitudes in our experience always lead to amazing things. We believe 99% of the people we encounter are human beings just like us, with their hopes, ambitions, feelings, fears. Then there are thiefs, criminals, and bad people everywhere, of course. But they are a small minority, even in very poor countries.<\/p>\n
